For those who don’t necessarily have the time or energy to water their plants on a regular basis, an automatic plant watering system may be just the ticket.

Best Drip Irrigation Systems

We all like to have plants in our lives. They are colorful, beautiful, and make our lives that much brighter. We like them in our homes, in our yards, in our offices, and anywhere else that we can think of to put them.

Unfortunately, plants don’t know how to water themselves.

And while we like to have them everywhere, we can’t possibly be everywhere at once. This is an equation that adds up to some unhappy greenery (and some unhappy people, too).

Consider this: you have three great spider plants sitting on shelves in your office to make you feel more comfortable during the work week sitting behind a desk and typing on a computer. Monday through Friday, you don’t have a problem whatsoever with watering them. In fact, you kind of enjoy the watering task, as it allows you a brief respite from the work you’ve been at all day.

But what about when you go home for the weekend? Who takes care of your plants then? And what about when you go on vacation? Who then takes care of your house plants? Unless you have a bunch of cacti sitting on your shelves or hanging from your ceiling, you are in trouble.

Or are you?

With an automatic plant watering system from brand names like Oasis and Smarthome, you don’t have to worry about your plants going thirsty ever again if you aren’t available to water them. Heck, you can even build your own system for automatic plant irrigation.

Below, we’ll take a look at this homemade remedy to your watering ills and then briefly at two different models you can buy on the market today.

  • Smarthome Automatic Plant Watering System – This Smarthome automatic plant irrigation system will run you about $70 on Amazon and is able to keep 14 plants happy at once. It has a 7-liter capacity and can regulate the amount of water that goes into each individual plant. This is another fine product.

How to Make an Automatic Watering System

Buying an automatic plant watering system or drip irrigation sprinkler system can cost you an arm and a leg.

If you don’t have the extra money to spend on one of these great devices, don’t fret. You can make your own.

All you need is:

  • Airline tubing
  • A 4 gallon bucket
  • An aquarium air pump
  • A timer
  • An airline control kit
  • And a check valve

By configuring these cheap items in the same way as the store-bought models, you can create your own automatic plant watering system without breaking the bank!

I HAVE HARVESTED MY THORNLESS BLACKBERRY SEEDS FROM MY JUICER AND AM IN THE PROCESS OF DRYING THEM. WHEN, HOW DEEP AND IN WHAT KIND OF SOIL IS BEST FOR STARTING THE SEED. IN SC, IT IS 100 DEGREES MOST EVERY DAY LATELY. SHOULD I START THEM IN BUCKETS AND TRANSFER THEM ONCE THEY HAVE REACHED TWO FT OF SO? SHOULD I KEEP THEM IN SUNNY EREAS INDOORS? WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO PLANT THEM INTO MY GARDEN?

There is an automatic plant watering system one can build for next-to-nothing out of recycled plastic bottles. They do not even have to be soda bottles! The cap just have to be wide enough to accommodate water picks [floral spikes] inserted into the cap. There are step-by-step instructions at http://www.kahnlandscaping.com/blog.html.

It uses no electricity and they cost almost nothing. The only thing you might have to buy are water picks [floral spikes.]
